There’s nothing worse for a creative mind than to have a job that stifles creativity. That’s what Daria –a talented graphic designer at Social Media Calendar –faced a few years back while working in the real estate industry.
While struggling with the restraints of her job and making time for her family, Daria ran into graphic designing and found that she was rather gifted in communicating with visuals.
So, what started as a hobby that involved making flyers and posters for family and friends turned into a full-time career that allowed her inner creativity to shine through.
It was a long time coming and required much deliberation and extensive experimentation, but our former real estate agent finally found a career she was passionate about.
Now she sells her designs online and finds inspiration in the mundaneness and simplicity of everyday life.
Although busy pursuing her dream, Daria was kind enough to make time for us and our questions.
What inspires your art?
I draw inspiration from the happenings of the day, no matter how big or small. I also feel motivated after spending quality time with my family, going out with friends, or watching movies that resonate with me.
What is your daily process like?
I like to take a walk in the morning, where I just let my mind wander. There’s something about the peace and stillness of a new day that rejuvenates your mind. Maybe that’s why most of my creative ideas come in the morning.
If I feel stuck, I love to explore Pinterest and Instagram to get my creative juices flowing. There are tons of resources out there, and you can always find ideas and color palettes to get you started.
Who buys your art from Social Media Calendar?
My templates are for small business owners who want to have cohesive and consistent aesthetics across their social media channels.
Mostly, my templates are used to keep up with the visual content demands of Instagram. Since coming up with new and original content daily, or even weekly is a daunting task, my customers pick up my pre-designed Instagram templates to give themselves a head-start!
It makes me happy to know that I can save their time, effort, and a lot of their money while also helping them build a distinguishable brand image.

Do you have any other jobs besides graphic designing?
Although it started as a side hustle, graphic designing is now my full-time job. It has given me everything –work-life balance, creative freedom, the ability to make my own decisions, and time to appreciate life. I wouldn't want to trade that for anything else.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
There are a lot of things I still don't know and challenges I haven't faced yet, so I don't know where I will end up. But I do know that I like being pushed out of my comfort zone because it helps me become better at what I do. Maybe that's where I'd like to be in five years. Better at what I do than I am at it today.
A Message for her Fans
Daria had the courage to leave behind a well-paying job for the things that made her happy. With her story, she wants to encourage her fans to find their dream career too. She says, “Whatever your goals may be, don’t be afraid to chase them. Keep pushing yourself and don’t be afraid to take risks; you might just find that they pay off in the end!”
Following her inner voice, Daria was able to build a career around her passion. Though it took time and effort, she pushed through and found a stable-footing in a job that she loves. She believes that "With hard work and dedication, anything is possible".
