When you are determined, nothing else really matters, especially not the fact that you're on maternity leave.
Jasmine comes from a small town in Serbia, a land of picturesque natural beauty and breathtaking sunsets, where she lives with her 3-children. Currently, she's on maternity leave from her role as a regional manager in a large company.
When we got in touch with Jasmine, we were surprised to learn that her business had begun with her maternity leave; it was fairly new! She wanted to earn some money during her free time (talk about being productive!), and graphic designing turned out to be her solution.
Now, she enjoys the lush greenery, vibrant colors, and serene atmosphere of Serbia, and runs a successfully growing graphic design business, from the comfort of her home.
How did you become a Graphic Artist?
Initially, I started graphic designing only as a way to fill up my free time during my maternity leave. I always had a passion for creativity and an appreciation for nature and healthy living. So, my journey as a graphic artist started with planners and journals for small businesses that portrayed my interests. Since I am a very organized individual myself and love design, it all came naturally to me.
As I delved deeper into the world of graphic design, I realized the potential of Instagram posts and story templates and added that to my collection of digital products. In this age of technology, who isn't interested in social media and digital platforms?
Soon, I was channeling all my passions and interests into my Canva templates shop. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that it has been a fulfilling journey, turning my passion into a source of income.
What inspires your art?
My art is inspired by things close to my heart: nature, and the incredible energy it holds, reiki, and yoga. I’m one of those individuals who find a never-ending source of beauty and tranquility in their connection to the natural world.
Being in Serbia, in a small town, where I grow healthy food for children also adds to this pleasure. It's such a rewarding experience and has continuously fuelled my desire of expressing my love for nature and healthy living through my work.
Creating Canva templates has been an excellent outlet for these wonderful emotions and experiences; it helps me create something that others could appreciate and enjoy!
What is your daily process like?
With 2 teenagers and a 2-year-old toddler, it's hard to find a steady work schedule. My day usually involves stealing time, whenever I can, to work on my templates. It could be during the kids' nap time, or while the food's cooking on the stove.
I've learned to successfully utilize these pockets of time, but there are times when I have to wake up a little early or go to sleep a bit late to get my work done. The key, however, is to stay focused whenever you're working and prioritize tasks intelligently. With passion and determination, nothing is impossible!
Can you tell us about your design style a bit?
My templates are all about capturing the essence of natural beauty, and a healthy lifestyle. For that, I generally go for soft colors and beautiful imagery.
All of my templates are thoughtfully curated with real text, inspirational quotes, helpful tips, and engaging elements. Also, I try to make them as flexible as possible, to give my clients the liberty to combine and edit them as they please, and create entirely original designs out of them.
My aim with my templates is to share a piece of my journey with my customers, spread positivity through my designs, and help them with their social media presence.
Who buys your art from Social Media Calendar?
My designs are usually bought by social media managers, bloggers, or individuals in the wellness industry, who are either facing a creative block or don't have enough time on their hands to create their own designs.
We know that you already have another job. So, where do plan to take this one?
I started graphic designing as an experiment and a way to stay productive. However, it has become so much more than that. It is now a way to channel my passions, and personality into useful products, and I plan to fully immerse myself in it. I want to become a full-time Canva creator sooner or later.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Looking ahead five years, I believe I have big goals. I want to establish a membership site for my customers, where they will be able to access member-only products, like templates, planners, and educational resources. Furthermore, I'd like to see my designs become a source of inspiration for other designers, and my business become a go-to platform for companies and brands, looking to have a thriving social media presence!
